There's actually another way to copy&paste piano roll/automation-sequences: Hold ctrl, click, and drag. It doesn't screw up automation, and it's quicker. Also, using mouse 3 (mouse wheel click) is a quicker way to remove. You propably were aware of these, but those could have been included in the tut.
